After a brief
summer rain, a rainbow arches over Laurel Avenue, the main street
of Damascus.

As summer gets underway, Emily at In the Country
prepares ice cream
for bikers who have made the 17-mile trip from Whitetop.
Traildog
needs a home. Thru-hiker Indiana found Traildog at the Abingdon
Gap shelter.
(Newsflash: happy ending. Traildog's owner picked
her up.)
The hikers
are here! Present and past thru-hikers enjoy some trail magic
at Blue Blaze. Left to right by trail name:
Pogue, Hatteras Jack, Firefly, Applesauce, Sneaky (97), Silver Streak,
Trace (03), Cruze, One-Third (03),
and Waterboy (99). In the coming weeks hundreds of hikers will walk
through town on the Appalachian Trail,
many on a quest to hike the entire 2,175 miles of the trail, which
runs from Georgia to Maine.

Trail
on their way to the Carolina Outer Banks.
