General Notices
- Town Hall is closed for repairs until further notice. Due to flood damage and ongoing remediation to Damascus Town Hall, town staff are displaced. Town Hall has temporarily relocated to the Damascus Motor Sales building, 786 North Beaver Dam Avenue. Open to the public on weekdays 10am to 3pm, closed on Wednesdays. Town Council meetings will be relocated temporarily to the Rock School Auditorium.
- Changes to Public Notices: Effective immediately, the Town of Damascus will advertise public notices with SWVA Sun in accordance with Virginia Code § 8.01-324. All public notices will still be posted to the town website, Damascus.org.
- 2025 First Half Real Estate taxes: The expected mailing date for the 2025 First Half Real Estate bills is May 13, 2025. The payment due date is June 5, 2025. For questions, please contact the treasurer at [email protected].
- New Beaverdam Creek Gauge: The Virginia Department of Emergency Management has added a water level gauge to Beaverdam Creek at Water Street. Access water level data here.
- Appalachian Power has requested that we share the following legislative updates and customer assistance programs with residents:

The Damascus Planning Commission will meet on the following dates, times, and locations for the purpose of collecting information, studying, and generally discussing the topic of “short term rentals” or “transient lodging” regulations as directed by the Damascus Town Council. No action will be taken as part of the work sessions.
Please be advised, three or more members of the Damascus Town Council may be present at any of the following meetings for the purpose of listening in and/or participating in work sessions.
The Commission shall hold any public hearings as are required by law, as well as on any matter which it deems to be in the public interest. The purpose, time, and place of such public hearings shall be at 6:00 PM in the Council Chambers of the Town Hall, unless otherwise posted.

NOTICE: Painting/staining work at parks - August 2024
The Town of Damascus has contracted with J Ross Conglomerate to conduct painting and staining on structures at Laurel Creek Park and the Town Park. The contractors will begin pressure washing on Wednesday, August 7. Painting and staining is expected to be completed by August 30. Please respect any barricades and posted signs and keep off of wet paint/stain.
Update: The painting of the Town Park Gazebo is expected to begin on August 15th. Staining of the structures at Laurel Creek Park is scheduled for the week of August 19th.

NOTICE: GATHERING - AUGUST 8, 2024
The Town of Damascus Elected and Appointed Officials will attend a gathering on Thursday, August 8, 2024, 5pm, at the 115 Smith St. This gathering is a celebration to thank Gavin N. Blevins for his years of service to the Town of Damascus and to welcome Chris Bell to his new role as Town Manager. Mayor Lamb will be serving burgers, dogs, chips, and drinks. The public is welcome to attend.

NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING
The Town Council of Damascus, VA will hold a public hearing for the purposes of public information and fiscal
planning regarding the proposed Town Budget for Fiscal Year 2025-2026.
The hearing will be held on June 2, 2025, at 6:00 P.M. at the Rock School Auditorium.
The public hearing is held pursuant to § 15.2-2506 of the Code of Virginia, as amended, and is for the purpose of
allowing the public to comment on the proposed budget. All citizens have the right to attend the public hearing and to
share their views on the proposed budget within such reasonable time limits as shall be established by the Town
Council.
The proposed property tax levies for Damascus, VA for the 2025-2026 tax year that would be necessary to fully
fund the proposed budgets if approved by the Town Council are as follows:
A unit levy for general town purposes of thirty-three cents ($0.33) per one hundred dollars ($100.00) of
assessed valuation of all taxable real estate and public utilities and fifty-two cents ($0.52) per one hundred dollars
($100.00) of assessed valuation of all mobile home, personal property, and machinery and tools. Five cents ($.05) per
one hundred dollars ($100) of assessed valuation of motor vehicles owned by volunteer rescue squads and fire
departments at 100% of fair market value as a separate classification of tangible personal property as provided in VA
Code 58.1-3506(A)(15).
The proposed budget is available at Town Hall for review.
